Programs
While a key component of the HSI initiative is meeting the requirements for federal HSI designation, numbers are only part of the equation.
A key component of the HSI initiative is dedicated to “servingness” – creating a welcoming and inclusive environment where students from diverse backgrounds can learn, grow and create real community. UCLA has a wide array of programs, services and educational resources to help support students and provide opportunities for them to build connections.
CSRC Faculty Hiring Initiative
The UCLA Chicano Studies Research Center (CSRC) is thrilled to promote several active faculty searches in partnership with various departments (listed below) as part of the UCLA Hispanic Serving Institution (HSI) Infrastructure Initiative. UCLA aims to achieve federal designation as a Hispanic Serving Institution as early as 2025. In preparation for this designation, the Office of the Chancellor and the Executive Vice Chancellor and Provost have sponsored these searches in order to recruit exceptional scholars whose teaching, scholarship and/or mentoring have strong ties to Latinx experiences in the United States. Faculty hired through these searches are expected to maintain an active affiliation to the CSRC and encouraged to contribute to initiatives that advance student success.
Latinx Success Center
The establishment of UCLA’s Latinx Success Center (LSC) responds to the Chancellor-appointed HSI Task Force recommendation to establish a center that can provide culturally responsive support for students and information for campus educators. The LSC builds on the momentum of campus-wide efforts related to UCLA’s commitment to becoming a federally designated HSI by 2025. Thank you to all who attended the historic launch of UCLA’s Latinx Success Center on March 31, 2025.
Excelencia/Excellence Scholars Program
UCLA’s Excelencia Scholarship empowers top Latino/a and low-income students with vital financial aid and holistic support, advancing the mission to become the first-choice destination for high-achieving Latino/a undergraduate student.
HSI Student Engagement
Student engagement is critical to UCLA’s emergence as an HSI. Beyond receiving student feedback, our initiative strives for a relationship of reciprocity with students to provide direction for HSI initiatives proactively. Through various metrics of student engagement, we advocate and implement student feedback on our HSI efforts. As a result, we wish to have UCLA stand out as one of the most student-led implementations of this designation.
HSI Fellows Program
The HSI Fellows Program is a thee-day program. This is a strategic effort to build institutional capacity for the HSI efforts across campus. The 2025 HSI Fellows bring together small teams of 30 faculty, administrators, and staff members to develop and implement campus-wide institutional transformation. Applications are now open for the 2025 cohort includes.
